Founder & Executive Director
Founder and Executive Director, Bill Farrar is an experienced aeronautic professional and engineer who worked for a water purification manufacturer. In 2009, after streamlining and making the purification system more user-friendly, Bill had an epiphany. He knew he had to do more than manufacture the system; he had to take it to the people who needed it most. He incoprorated Fountains of Hope on July 9, 2009. The horrific earthquake shook Haiti on January 12, 2010, exploding into a desperate plea for safe water. Bill sprang into action and has not stopped since. The need for safe water on the small island of Haiti was enormous. Fountains of Hope continued to bring purification systems and hygiene training, but then the cholera outbreak ten months later turned the recovering island into a death camp. Contaminated water is the main cause of cholera, which has sickened over one million Haitians since late 2010 and killed more than over 10,000. To date, Fountains of Hope has installed close to 100 purifiers in Haiti bringing life through safe water to over 50,000 people. Since 2009, we have installed 179 purifier systems in 14 countries and the number keeps growing.
Bill Farrar is a single dad of three awesome children, Daniel, Michaela and Jacob. He lives in Carmel, Indiana and worships at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church. Bill has a strong aviation technical/engineering background and now uses his technical passion to take safe water to impoverished countries and disaster impacted locations. After graduating from Purdue University, he became a helicopter and airplane pilot as well as an airframe and powerplant aircraft maintenance technician. Bill is a member of The Rotary Club of Indianapolis, Zionsville Great Banquet Community, and Kairos Prison Ministry. He enjoys visiting the National Parks and has visited over 200 out of 412 thus far.
Bill has led many disaster relief teams including to the areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina, the flooding in Villahermosa, Mexico, the post election violence in Kenya, Flooding in Burkina Faso, Africa, the typhoid outbreak in Ghana, and most recently helping earthquake victims in Nepal with his daughter Michaela. He has been on more than 30 trips to Haiti due to the earthquake leading to the cholera outbreak.
Bill and the FoH team bring not only safe water to the poor and marginalized but also the “Living Water” of Jesus Christ. Team members are encouraged to help people receiving the gift of safe water to understand the value of receiving the gift of “Living Water.”
