Fountains of Hope was born out of a passion to help people during times of disaster. One of our focuses has been providing safe water solutions to those in Haiti. An already poverty stricken country, Haiti, was rocked to the core after the 2010 earthquake that devastated much of the country.
Days after the earthquake, FoH mobilized a team to Haiti to install water purifiers in several desperate communities. To date, FoH continues to identify and support communities in need and travels to Haiti regularly to provide safe water purifiers. Many of the communities we help consist of the thousands of people that have been displaced because of the earthquake.
Haiti is considered a water-stressed country. Forty percent of people in Haiti lack access to safe water. Due to the absence of proper sewage sanitation systems, most water sources in Haiti are contaminated with human waste. This dirty water is often used within households for cooking and for drinking. Diseases, such as Cholera, have stolen more than 8,500 lives in Haiti since the devastating earthquake in January, 2010. FoH mobilized a team days after the earthquake to (a town) which was an area greatly affected by the earthquake. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of lives were saved by the installation of safe water in these hard struck areas.
Efforts to strengthen Haiti’s water and sanitation system have proved successful in reducing the number of water borne illnesses. There has been a drastic reduction in the number of Cholera cases and deaths since 2013. The implementation of safe water sources is an important step in the battle against water borne diseases such as Cholera.
Prayerfully consider sponsoring a purifier in Haiti. One FoH purifier can provide safe water for an entire village, church, school, or orphanage. Any financial gift, small or large, is greatly appreciated!
