Bill Farrar, Founder & Executive Director
Bill Farrar is the Founder and Executive Director of Fountains of Hope. He is an experienced aeronautic professional and engineer who worked for a water purification manufacturer. After developing a quality, user-friendly water purification system, Bill knew he had to do more than manufacture the system. He wanted to take it to the people who needed it most. He incorporated Fountains of Hope on July 9, 2009.
On January 12, 2010, Haiti had a tremendous need for safe water after being shaken by an earthquake. Fountains of Hope brought life-giving water and hygiene training to Haiti, but then the cholera outbreak ravaged the island, killing over 10,000. Fountains of Hope has installed almost 100 purifiers in Haiti bringing safe water to over 50,000 people. Since 2009, we have installed 179 purifier systems in 14 countries and the number keeps growing.
Bill Farrar is a single dad of three awesome children, Daniel, Michaela and Jacob. He lives in Carmel, Indiana and worships at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church. Bill has a strong aviation technical/engineering background and now uses his technical passion to take safe water to impoverished countries and disaster impacted locations. After graduating from Purdue University, he became a helicopter and airplane pilot as well as an airframe and power plant aircraft maintenance technician. Bill is a member of The Rotary Club of Indianapolis, Zionsville Great Banquet Community, and Kairos Prison Ministry. He enjoys visiting the National Parks and has visited over 200 out of 412 thus far.
Bill has led many disaster relief teams including to the areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina, the flooding in Villahermosa, Mexico, the post-election violence in Kenya, Flooding in Burkina Faso, Africa, the typhoid outbreak in Ghana, and most recently helping earthquake victims in Nepal with his daughter Michaela. He has been on more than 30 trips to Haiti due to the earthquake leading to the cholera outbreak.
Bill and the FoH team bring not only safe water to the poor and marginalized but also the “Living Water” of Jesus Christ. Team members are encouraged to help people receiving the gift of safe water to understand the value of receiving the gift of “Living Water.”
