Water Purification

WORLD WATER CRISIS

There is a Very Real Water Crisis in Our World Today

More than two billion people worldwide rely on wells for their water, according to TIME Magazine. The seals on wells frequently leak over time and allow for the intrusion of deadly bacteria.

More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes. Nearly all deaths, in fact 99 percent, occur in the developing world. A child dies every 45 seconds from a waterborne disease.

A Constant Struggle

For two thirds of the world, life is a constant struggle for water. In Binga, Zimbabwe women and children must walk six miles one way down the cliff of a plateau to get water for themselves and their families.

Every day the struggle is deathly because of the vipers and the hippos, Africa’s most dangerous animal. Thanks to generous donors and volunteers, Fountains of Hope installed a pumping station and purification system, bringing water to a school for the entire village.

Bringing Hope to Those in Need

Contaminated water is the #1 cause of death in developing countries. It is responsible for life-threatening diseases such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery, hepatitis, and giardia.

Fountains of Hope International has the technology, the passion and the heart to change this statistic. Through the generosity of donors and volunteers, children and entire communities can drink safe water and learn safe hygiene practices.

THE SOLUTION

CHLORINATION!

Chlorination is the only disinfection technology that effectively disinfects from the point of introduction all the way through the piping system to the tap as well as storage containers. Chlorination has the unique feature of residual chlorine. It sanitizes plumbing, medical equipment, fabrics, and water containers. Chlorination has saved, perhaps, more lives than any other technology, protecting many nations for over a century. No other treatment has a track record that compares with chlorination.

HOW IT WORKS

How The Water Purifier Works:

Chlorination has protected the United States and other countries for over a century and has saved more lives than perhaps any other technology.

FoH utilizes the McGuire water purifier that provides safe water to those in need.  This purification system disinfects 3,600 gallons of water per hour using a cup of ordinary table salt, water, and a 12-volt battery.

Chlorine gas is created from the table salt through electrolysis and is injected into the water, killing bacteria such as cholera, typhoid, e-coli, and micro-organisms causing diarrhea. The process is simple yet provides safe, life-giving water to those in need.

A foldable solar panel is provided to keep the battery charged virtually anywhere in the world. Pre-filters of various sizes and capabilities are also available to remove sediment.

The purifier system can treat up to 55 gallons per minute (3,600 gallons per hour). The water is ready to drink in two hours.

The FoH Two-Tank Purification System

The Fountains of Hope Two-Tank Water Purification System utilizes two large 500 or 1,000 gallon tanks connected together with a manifold system created by Bill Farrar.  While one tank starts being drawn down and distributed to the local community, the other tank is being filled up, purified then gassed off to remove the most amount of chlorine from the water prior to drinking. When tank #1 is empty, we switch the manifold valves to begin distributing water from tank #2. We then fill up tank #1, purify the batch, then wait until tank #2 is empty. Water is always available with the FoH two-tank purifier system, which makes it the most desired configuration.
